EASTER in the NEW Building It has been said that nothing is certain except death and taxes. This year, both taxes and death were due on April 15. However, because of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, death has lost it's sting and taxes aren't due until the following day. (Taxes will continue to sting.) As the world heralds the joyous news of Christ's resurrection, we at St. Andrew will have one more reason for jubilation. We will be able to use our new sanctuary, though incomplete, on Easter Sunday. Can there be a better way of celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord, than to be in our NEW Building? The new building is our visible symbol of resurrection. In 1915, the Turks tried to exterminate every Armenian. The new building stands as a monument to our faith. Who would have thought in the aftermath of the 1915 Genocide that Armenians on the other side of the world, in a place called Cupertino, would not only live, but build upon their faith. Christ gave us His unfailing word, "Courage, the victory is mine, I have overcome the world!" That courage has been handed down to us through the generations by way of the Church. It is courage that has allowed us to not give up hope, but put our trust in Christ. When we pray and worship in the new building, we will be demonstrating to the world, and more importantly to ourselves, that with God all things are possible, even the conquering of death. By way of explanation, the City of Cupertino has granted us a one day only use of our new building. The building is not finished yet, but they are making this allowance until we get our occupancy permit. April 15 is not the consecration date of our building. Services will continue in the weeks to follow at St. Sava. Let us join the chorus of angels on April 15, let us loudly proclaim, "Christ has risen from the dead!" There is no greater message than this! --Fr. Vazken -------------------------------------- c. 1990 Fr. Vazken Movsesian Address comments to: dervaz@sain.org --------------------------------------
