Message of Fr. Vazken Movsesian, parish priest of St. Andrew Armenian Church, Cupertino, from the Nakhagoch Newsletter. Vazken Movsesian Address comments to: dervaz@sain.org -------------------------------------- April 1989 PARABLE FOR TODAY The Dumb American "And who is my neighbor?" A man was trapped under his fallen house after the earthquake. He lay on the street, half dead, bleeding severely, with rubble and fire around him. An Armenian priest was walking along that street. He saw the man laying there and noticed the man was not Armenian. The priest made the sign of the cross, said "Lord have mercy" and walked on. A minister was walking down the street. Seeing the man laying there, he noticed the man was not a Christian. Bowing his head and saying a prayer, the minister walked on. Along came a "dumb American"--you know the type, always giving, helping any and every country and man in need. An American whose giving knows no bounds. The American did not ask the man's nationality nor his creed. He pulled him away from the rubble and fire, took him to a hospital. When the man had been treated, the American took him home and provided for him until he was back on his feet. Which of these three men was neighbor to the earthquake victim? Which of these three men did God's will? -------------------------------------- c. 1989 Fr. Vazken Movsesian Address comments to: dervaz@sain.org --------------------------------------
